What is sete quedas?

Sete Quedas was a set of seven waterfalls located on the Paraná River between Brazil and Paraguay. It was one of the largest waterfalls in the world, with a total height of approximately 114 meters (374 feet). Sete Quedas was a popular tourist destination until it was submerged by the construction of the Itaipu Dam in 1982. The loss of Sete Quedas sparked a great deal of controversy and mourning among the people of Brazil and Paraguay, as the waterfalls were regarded as a natural wonder of the world. Today, the Itaipu Dam is a major source of hydroelectric power and a popular tourist destination in its own right.
